Costco is located on New York and South Dakota avenues and measures 154,000 square feet. Being the first ever retail market of its kind to be located in the District, Costco was diligent in creating 274 DC Resident jobs.
L. S. Caldwell & Associates, Inc. (LSC) was retained by Costco to develop and implement an Employment Fair for its new location to reach out into neighboring communities to employ as many DC Residents as possible. Working closely with Costco, The Department of Employment Services (DOES) and local area Business and Training Organizations; LSC successfully brought about 2,000(+) applicants seeking employment opportunities.
The following strategies were established and implemented:
- Actively recruited potential job seekers via business and training organizations, email, phone and flyer distribution.
- Worked closely with the Department of Employment Services (DOES) to provide employment opportunities through the Summer Youth Program to work on employment fair.
- Organized and successfully scheduled over 800 personal interviews with Costco staff on the day of the event.
- Worked with local area vendors to ensure that all necessary equipment and/or supplies needed were on hand the day of the event.
- Assisted the Mayor on the day of the event to gather relevant data from applicants to assist in providing employment opportunities at various sites throughout the District.
- Provided Costco Management staff with necessary interview support during the employment fair.
